A new Australian 3 piece rock band for the young (and the young at heart) The Gumboots were conceived in late 2023 after musicians Melia, Elodie and Ben, all parents of young children, realised there was a void of engaging music that both kids and adults could listen to without feeling nauseous with repetition and banality. What do kids listen to after they have grown out of The Wiggles and before they can fully comprehend the teen themes of Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift?
Enter stage left: The Gumboots, a rock band that are stimulating and dynamic on stage.
Melia and Elodie had previously co-written an award-winning musical that won a Gold Palm Award for Outstanding New Work and buoyed by its success locally in Northern NSW and then in Adelaide, they started jamming with Ben. Melia is a trained actor, Natural Voice Leader and an award winging songwriter who has a passion for language, rhyme and melody; Elodie is a bass-playing harmonic magician who toured the world with her siblings in indie-pop band Tigertown and currently teaches kids musical theatre; Ben grew up in a gospel church music family and is the rhythm king and drummer/percussionist and together they are having bucket loads of fun!
The Gumboots write songs about quirky animals (spiders/mosquitoes/ticks/leeches) and machinery (fire engines/jackhammers/diggers) that kids 2 - 10 years of age can dance to while absorbing fun facts. Did you know that wombats are the only animal in the world that poo in cubes? Did you know that cockroaches can survive underwater for up to 40 minutes? The songs are built on clever lyrics and memorable hooks - ear-worms that keep everyone happy!
The Gumboots’ stage shows are interactive and comedic; there is call and response, dance moves and harmonies aplenty.
After 2 years of playing festivals ( Splendour in the Grass; Love Lennox, Sidestep) The Gumboots have been in the studio with ARIA award-winning producer Chris Collins to capture the energy of Digger, Cockroach and Wombat and are soon to complete their debut album ‘Cos Gumboots are the best!’.
The response has been electric and affirming: kids and adults are loving the songs and The Gumboots are making a splash!
