We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
A life-long beekeeper, until the launch of the Flow Hive, Stuart was the director of a not-for-profit community organisation based in Lismore, NSW.
Stuart and his son, Cedar, invented the Flow Hive, a revolutionary honey extraction technology that took a decade of tinkering to create. Their invention shot to fame through its record-breaking crowdfunding launch in February 2015. Alongside winning a slew of innovation and design awards, the Flow Hive has inspired thousands of new beekeepers worldwide. There are now more than 150,000 Flow customers in over 130 countries, fostering a stronger connection with their environment and the pollinators that are vital to the food systems we depend on.
As a certified B Corp, Flow is committed to doing business in a regenerative, ethical and sustainable manner, while also working to generate a positive impact for pollinators and communities. This includes the Billions of Blossoms initiative, Flow’s global pollinator habitat conservation project.
Living in Brunswick Heads, NSW, with his partner Michele, Stu is still an avid beekeeper with a passion for the natural world and a family man with four kids and eight grandchildren.
