We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
Born and raised in Sydney, after a career in fashion, creative direction and digital media, Ruby Jean Cottle returned to her high-school love — writing — when she became a mother.
Her storytelling explores the power of the natural world through a lens of romance, the paranormal, fantasy and sci-fi, which culminate in her debut novel, Black River. A fresh take on the vampire genre set in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, it's a coming of age story that continues in book two of the duology, White Mountain, out in September.
Ruby now lives in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales with her husband and their three sons.
