Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.

Romy Ash is the author of novels Mantle (2026), and Floundering (2012), which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin, Commonwealth Book Prize and Prime Minister's literary awards, amongst others. She is also the author of a children's picture book: As Bright as a Rainbow (2024), as well as regularly publishing journalism, essays and short stories. She teaches Creative Writing at The University of Melbourne.
