We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
Peter Helliar is a muti-hyphenate performer, who is firmly in the business of being funny- and makes it look dead easy! Peter has performed in festivals, theatres, and comedy rooms Australia wide and is a regular fan favourite on our small screens – appearing in season three of Taskmaster Australia and as a competitor on The Amazing Race Australia. This follows appearances on Spicks and Specks, Thank God You’re Here, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee and Have You Been Paying Attention? Peter co-produced two series of the award winning It’s A Date for ABC TV, and wrote, directed, and starred in all three seasons of Network 10’s dramedy How to Stay Married. Not content with being a star on stage and screen, Peter created and hosts the very funny cinema podcast You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet and is the author of the much-loved children’s book series, Frankie Fish and Herman Crab, both of which are published by Hardie Grant/Egmont. Peter has embarked on a new and exciting chapter – 2025 sees the release of his new series, Detective Galileo, published by Harper Collins. Peter has been one of Australia’s favourite comedians since his first appearance on TV, winning audiences over with his sharp wit and endearing charm.
