We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
Pauline Menczer is a world surfing champion − the only one from iconic Bondi Beach who now resides in the Byron Shire. She is an outspoken advocate of women in sport and the author of Surf like a Woman.
Her mission is to share her whole story and inspire those who are dealing with or dealt with autoimmune diseases, sexism, misogyny and homophobia. A life-sized bronze statue of Pauline was installed at Bondi beach in 2025 to honor her achievements and inspire future generations.
