Murray Burns formed new wave rock band Mi-Sex in New Zealand in the late 1970s, initially establishing the band with bandmates including vocalist Steve Gilpin and bassist Don Martin. The group quickly gained prominence across Australia and New Zealand, achieving multiple top 10 singles and releasing five studio albums.
