We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
Initially training as a classical violinist, Kumi Taguchi has spent over two decades building an expansive career in media, from radio, television, current affairs, and long-form documentary. Currently, Kumi is the host of SBS’s flagship current affairs program Insight, Australia's leading forum for nuanced discussions around challenging topics. Prior to Insight Kumi has held a number of roles at the biggest names in Australian media including ABC, Classic FM, Triple J; as well as Star TV and Asia Television in Hong Kong. She was the Cultural Correspondent for Channel Seven’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics. A regular host of major live events, Kumi has graced the stage for the Australian of the Year Awards, Stargazing Live, and The Invictus Games in Sydney in 2018, broadcasting to a global audience of 60 million.
Outside of the workplace, Kumi is always up for an adventure, especially one that pushes her physical and mental limits. She has reported live from the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, has run two half marathons, and a marathon in Central Australia. Her memoir The Good Daughter is her first book.
