We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.
Ita Mehrotra is a graphic novelist and artist educator based out of New Delhi, India. She is the author of Shaheen Bagh, A Graphic Recollection (Yoda Press, 2021), which was a runner up for the Illustrated Book of the Year at the Publishing Next Industry Awards and was nominated for the Laadli Media Awards.
Her book Uprooted, A Graphic Account of the Struggle for Forest Rights, is to be published by Westland Books in June 2025.
Ita’s non-fiction comics and illustrated stories, often stemming from engagements within socio-political movements around her, have been published and exhibited widely over the past decade with The Wire, Goethe Institute, Fumetto Festival Lucerne, Zubaan Books, Yoda Press, Ad Astra Comix (Canada), popula.com, and KHOJ Artists Association, among others.
