Writer

Denise Alison

Denise Alison started gathering stories and photographing the diverse community of Lismore and the Northern Rivers 11 years ago, from farmers to potters, woodcarvers, drag queens, homeless, Mayors and flood survivors. She started a Facebook page called Humans of Lismore which acquired 30,000 followers. Her dedication and hours of patient listening meant that these stories have been captured. The comments are that these stories make up the thread work of her town and bring compassion and heart to people who they may have once walked past in the street. Denise has now published a book called Humans of Lismore which celebrates the eclectic fabric of the northern rivers spirit. She is a mother, a grandmother, a dog lover, cook, market lover, op shop fanatic and people's champion.
