Benja Roberts

Benja Roberts, also known as Mibilahm is a singer-songwriter who has for the past decade immersed himself in the world of music singing with bands out front or back-up and concentrating on finding inspiration in his homeland of Bundjalung jugun. A proud Bundjalung man, the pronunciation of Mibilahm is meeb-bee-larm which translates to 'sweetheart' or 'lover', depending on the context. As an example, when Benja’s husband treats him to a fancy restaurant for Valentine's Day he embodies a true mibilahm.

In 2024 Benja completed a bachelor’s degree in Songwriting and Production at the Creative Trades University, SAE Byron Bay Campus. Currently he is the front person for an inclusive group known as 'The Deadly Good'.   This troupe is a vibrant mix of soul, R&B and disco comprised of brave LGBTQIA+ members and allies, along with First Nation descendants who are passionate about rebellion and enjoyment. In their performance their aim is to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone to experience music that resonates with them.

Benja’s aspirations are centred around writing and producing as much music as he can with the hope of sharing a journey that unfolds through an album, videos, conceptual soundscapes, and various multimedia forms. Through his work he aims to empower and uplift the cultures of First Nations, LGBTQIA+, Black communities, and women.

Benja draws his inspiration from his personal experience and openly expresses stories of his life challenges and simple joys interwoven within his songwriting to etch the stories he really wants to tell about providing for his children, his personal pride as a First Nations, gay parent and musician, songwriter and producer.
