Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that Byron Writers Festival takes place on the traditional lands of the Arakwal Bumberbin Peoples of the Bundjalung Nation. We pay respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge them as the original storytellers of the lands and waterways of this Country.

John West Poetry Cup & Wordworks

The estate of the late Melbourne poet John West manages a fund to encourage and reward young poets, both in writing and performance. The John West Poetry Cup ($400 first prize, $100 runner up) is open to anyone aged 10 to 18 years, performing one poem (maximum 2 minutes) on any theme or subject. Sign on is 2:00pm on Sunday 10 August at Bangalow Bowling Club and the contest is at 2:30pm. The facilitator is David Hallett and entry is free.

Wordworks is an open mic opportunity for local and visiting poets. Sign on for readings is 3:30pm on Sunday 10 August at Bangalow Bowling Club with readings starting at 4:00pm. The facilitator is David Hallett and entry is free. Wordworks will also feature a performance by Rachael Williams, NSW Champion of 2024 Australian Poetry Slam.
